The WMVMA presents Dr. Tom Carey, DVM DACVPM to discuss COAST: Canine OsteoArthritis Staging Tool.

About our speaker:

Dr Tom Carey received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Michigan State University in 1994 and in 2015, became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine. He has practiced companion animal medicine and surgery in Southeast Michigan for over 20 years in an associate, sole practitioner/practice owner, and relief/emergency status. Dr. Carey became a commissioned officer in the US Army Veterinary Corp in 2009 and has held positions as a Field Veterinarian, HHC Company Commander in a Civil Affairs Battalion, Veterinary Preventive Medicine Officer, and is a veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom (AF). In 2006, Dr. Carey left full-time private practice to become a Practice Development Veterinarian with Hills Pet Nutrition. He has extensive training in evidence based clinical nutrition and how it plays an integral role in the management of acute and chronic disease. In 2013, Dr. Carey joined the team at Elanco and as a Regional Consulting Veterinarian, his primary tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Acting as a product and category expert charged with creating and maintaining relationships across the country with key opinion leaders in pertinent fields, schools of veterinary medicine, and practicing veterinarians in the Great Lakes district and throughout the Eastern Region
  • Providing internal training and education to sales force at local, regional, and national level
  • Delivering educational seminars and presentations to veterinarians and their support staff in the fields of dermatology, parasitology, and pain management
  • Acting as liaison between Elanco and local, regional, and state veterinary medical associations and veterinary colleges, in order to advance the concepts of best medicine and its effects on the human-animal bond, preventative medicine, and public health

Dr. Carey lives in Canton, MI with his wife, two daughters, and three dogs. He continues to serve in the US Army Reserve and is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Administration with a Leadership concentration.
